"Famous Five go Marshalling"
It all STARTED as a bit of a
laugh when Sandra & Iain brought the caravan along to the start line at
the Cambrian Rally last year.
Iain spent half an hour being instructed by fellow geriatric "Jones the
Paint" in how to park the caravan up without causing too much of an obstruction
to the Start Area of our stage - Suffice to say "the paint" nearly
got PLANTED by Baxter and Baxter ended up parking it himself!
"Not enough space for that thing here" and "what the hell did
you wanna bring THAT for" were a couple of comments to be heard emitting
from the undergrowth early next morning, when WE woke from a blissful and WARM
nights sleep in the comfort of our centrally heated caravan, to find Mr Blue
frozen to the spot alongside his tank of a 4x4 in which he'd tried to get comfy
for an hour or two, without success, and marshals everywhere, disappearing into
the greenery, only to reappear a few moments later ......... (we all knew
where they'd gone!)
Given a half hour and we were up & about, kettle was boiling and the aroma
of freshly cooking (burning?) bacon and roasting coffee was to be noted wafting
around, high in the mountains above Penmachno.........
Cue several other Rhyl AND Clwyd Vale members now rolling up to the stage start
and all being told to return after the rally had gone through, for a POST event
BBQ! .......
.......... There then followed a lot of pretty noisy cars going past us over
a couple of hours period, drivers
& navigators of several of the vehicles being known to all at the stage
start - and duly wished well on the stage.
Soon as the closing car had passed us, on went the BBQ again and stage marshals
appeared from everywhere! ........ NOW who's'"stewpid" idea was it
to bring the caravan along eh?????????? Where ELSE would you have stared 10lb
of bacon & sausage (hygienically!) and about 5 loaves and crates of buns,
for the butties????? (and that was just Dave's portion!) ......... and made
tea & coffee for hoards?........
Caravan on a CAR Rally STILL
such a daft idea hu?...... looks like other club members are now on the same
wavelength as Sandra & I ...... Keith & Linda now take THIER caravan
to events the night before too ........... and Jones the Paint is the latest
to succumb to the idea, buying a caravan only a couple of weeks ago ready to
"go on holiday" to the next rally! - We've upgraded to a camper van
now (a bit easier for the old geriatric 'ere to handle!) and there's a rumour
that Ped might even be acquiring a unit at some point soon...........
HEADLINE NEWS - 26/06/08
Roz 'n Ped have now aquired a mobile 38 berth bunkhouse on wheels (aka a Super
Swift caravan) - there's the next prime candidates for Mull
methinks?
bookings and bets for the "how many heffers can you get in a caravan at
once" competition are now being taken.......
Whats this about Mez & Jen being up for Mull in a tent??....... is this
just a "tale" or is there truth in the winds?
The Webmaster has heard stories that Baz & Claire are canvas freaks too,
Claire being forever young.............. perhaps she'll talk him into seeing
a rally from the "other side" one of these days?
If YOU fancy coming rally marshalling
with us all with a caravan, or a tent (or even just sleeping in the back of
a van if you're desperate!) then we'd love to have you join us! The next "camping
expeditions are, MID WALES STAGES, in June, Isle of Man in July, Isle of Mull
in October and (probably) the Cambrian in November. We usually go at least the
day before an event (to help set up the stages if necessary) and have some sort
of a BBQ or a couple of drinks & food of some sort the evening before and,
if time allows, the evening after too.........
We go to bed at a reasonable time, and don't have to get up at stupid o'clock
to get to the stage on the day of the event, 'cos we're already there!!
If it rains, we can dry out, if it's cold, we can warn up!
All stage team members are welcome
to join us - it's a bit of a "social event" - why not join us on the
next event?............
I suspect Kerry (Rhyl 6) might even persuade Rick to get their caravan out of
mothballs and join us one of these days?........
