Rhyl Festival Week 1971, and Rhyl Motor Club took on Liverpool Motor Club in an Autotest. The Rhyl team was Arthur Jones (Escort), John Spillar (Anglia), Alan Golden (Mini), Ralph Rowlands (Mini), Fred Dovey (Mini) and Roy Hill (Sunbeam Alpine)

But note the editors at "Welsh Rally Sport" magazine never could spell (even at 15p a copy!)......and this was the year O/S mapping went metric!

Local crews mixing it with the "Big Boys" on the Welsh of this year were: Mike Hinde & M Stevens(100), The Powley Bros(138), P Bartlett & Barry Bartlett(165), Colin Mack & Dave Thomas(210) and Lenny Evans with Ernie Holmes(239)

Famous names competing included: Roger Clark, Chris Sclater, Marku Alen, Pentti Airikkalla, Russell Brookes, John Bloxham, Roy Fiddler, John Haughland, Will Sparrow and Tony Pond!
